If you are going to immerse yourself in a country that speaks a different language from your native tongue, try to prepare for your trip by learning just a few basics to get you around your daily tasks at your destination. Memrise is a great resource for various courses in languages (as well as arts, history, science and much more), providing a playful way to learn effectively and quickly. Or download an app to your smartphone that lets your practice your language skills on the go and whenever you have some time (on the bus? at the doctor?). One popular one is Duolingo.
Are you aware of the California Coastal Project? It is a privately funded organization who took digital overlapping pictures of the coastline from Oregon to Baja in order to document the current ersosion state. It is an amazing piece of work. You can “walk” from one end of California to the Mexican Border.
Trying to eat a healthy diet and wanting to continue this while travelling? Try Happy Cow! Here you can search your destination (or any trip stop) for healthy restaurants, read their reviews and even get an idea of the menu. After you have had a good meal, try to return the favor by writing a review yourself! And to get an idea what food is “typical” for any country, check out “Food by country” … then get excited about trying different dishes at your destination.
