Should you rent your vacation home?

To rent or not to rent?

Should you rent your vacation home?

You have purchased a vacation home. You enjoy spending time there. Should you rent it during the times you are not there?

This is a big decision. Some people are not comfortable sharing their private homes. Others purchased the home mostly as an investment, hoping to recover any expenses (and more) through the rent charged. In the end, it seems to depend on what kind of renters you welcome to your home, and how much support you experience in the renting process. For example, Owner Direct Vacation Rentals has become popular with owners who have never rented before. Are you one of those owners?

Sharing your home can bring big rewards

Sharing your home can bring big rewards

Have you ever had these thoughts:

  • Although we do not need the rental income, it’s not a bad idea to have our own vacation to Hawaii or our annual ski trip covered by paying guests in our vacation home during Christmas/New Years.
  • It would be good to cover our strata fees and property taxes, we only have to give up the high demand times to get paid thousands of dollars.
  • Although we take pride in our unit and don’t want to risk damage or loss of personal items, my friends rent through a responsible service and have never had a problem. They get to talk to and get to know each guest going into the unit.
  • I don’t want to be cleaning up after my guests, so I’ll have a housekeeper do most of the work. My housekeeper can also help us clean up after our own stays there.

Flexible Program – You Remain In Control

The best choice is a flexible program and listing site where you as the owner still stay in control. Where you can set as many booking conditions and policies as you feel comfortable with (e.g. families only, minimum 5 nights etc). Where you get to talk to the guest before deciding to rent. Where the listing company supports you throughout the process.

One of the most important aspects for you as the owner might be that you don’t want to pay anything until you receive a booking. After all, paying for something that might not get you any return is not high on anybody’s list. So make sure you don’t pay until you rent.

Why not try Owner Direct?

At Owner Direct Vacation Rentals, we support you through all the steps, we are accessible on the phone every day of the year, and there are no upfront fees so you don’t pay until you receive a booking. Sounds good?

I own a condo timeshare in Kapaa Hi. I am interested in renting it out. One bedroom 1 bath or 2 bedroom 2 bath available. Fully equiped kitchen, pool, spa, restaurant on site, on the beach. Lovely condo.
